Sharing the Virtual Life

I am posting this for all readers, new or old. I thought it might be interesting for you to read about my own process with this web site.

For a long time I have wanted one of my own, and here it is!  Over my seventy-six years I  have written many words on many pages. Some professionally, in letter form and  to do with my work within the field of personal and spiritual development. They all sat there, on my computer waiting patiently to be published in one way or another.

Of course, writing a book was the obvious solution. However, I am an Aries person, well endowed with the impatience that goes with this sign of the zodiac. Publishing through normal channels takes a huge amount of time and energy. So, now of an age when not too sure of how much time I have left, I took the jump and hoped that a website would provide an instant solution. In other words – this site is my book. It includes some of my writings, as well as thoughts and feelings about this life that we all live. However things have not turned out quite as expected – but much more interesting for me, and for my readers as I am discovering.

We have been ‘out there’ in cyberspace for about five months now. This site appears to lead me, rather than other way round. Luckily I am fairly flexible and just follow what comes into my life, correspondence, people met and contacts made.

The  Conversations section and the news letter are the engines that run the site. They open doors to conversations as well as to the most wonderful and beautiful pieces of writing from all ages, backgrounds and interests. We have news items and comments, poetry, videos and stories that can encourage response.

The original idea was for a site for the over 50s that would cover, in depth, the joys and sadness of growing older. We wanted to leave all the practical stuff to the forty or so other sites in the same niche market. Our site would cover the emotional questions, the excitement of new ways of understanding and the depth and richness to be uncovered in these later years of life.  Well, guess what – we receive letters from much younger people also, from all walks of life who enjoy what appears  in the free newsletters and  ever-changing content of the conversations (posts).

But, readers beware!  If you are thinking of doing something similar, and think you have an idea of how much time it will take – multiply that time by at least three! I certainly spend much more time sitting at the computer than is healthy for me.  I am blessed in having a son who designed the site and a Webmaster who keeps me more or less sane. These are both young men with big hearts to whom I owe a lot.

AND I would encourage you strongly, to have a go.  So much richness has come into my life since moving out into the virtual world. Lost friendships have been re-awakened, interesting strangers have made contact and a whole world of beauty, fun and inspiration has come my way.  Persephone

Since there is a total absence of a comment to this article, I deemed it necessary to write one. I for one am glad that the daunting task of setting up such a website, and the work it must generate just to update it, has not overwhelmed you. I resisted the world of computers until I was 56 years old, and then was introduced to this wonderful method of communication. Kicking and screaming I might add, by my present wife, to whom I shall be eternally grateful. I live on an island in Denmark and to be able to converse with so many people on so many diverse subjects, is to me a blessing. One of which I do not take lightly. I have in my time facilitated many courses around the world, and to count how many courses I have attened is impossible. However, there were times when I just knew this course and this teacher was just there for me. This is how I feel about this site. To be able to read the thoughts and feelings of so many, even if I do not necessarily agree with them, still gives me food for thought and anything that excercises me, both mentally and spiritually is divine pleasure.
