Reading test – another bit of fun!
I have previously posted a fun piece about language – here is another – very different though, I think I enjoyed this one even more.

It’s only a little worse than I, a 75-year dyslexic, might have written! Reading it was no problem at all and the jumble was hardly noticable – in print. However, if it were in someone’s unknown handwriting, it would be a different story for me. It would have been almost indecipherable, as I have to actually read that rather than just scanning it. I make many fewwer mistakes when writing rather than typing – nothing to do with typos – and in the latter usually cannot see what’s wrong – see ‘fewwer’ above!! It looked too long on the page for the word it was, but it took me ages to spot the extra ‘w’.
Does the way we used to be taught make any difference, compared to the newer methods of teaching?
Will man ever develop a new and quicker or better way of communication? The present way using the written word has taken millenia to evolve and has to a great extent led us to the present state of civilisation, language, ethics, ideas, laws, scientific progress, etc – but might there be a better way of cumminicating using words? If there were some other way not using wordss, then how?
It’s an intriguing thought, and I know of no work being done in that field, but perhaps someone else does? Hmmm – I wonder ……. ? It would be good, for example, if there were some rapid clear way of conveying the image of young swallows being fed on the wing by their parents, which I can see now, or the concept of, say, forgiveness. Some ‘Lateral Thinking’ is required, I think. That will keep me busy till Christmas, I think, but which Christmas?!
