Guest post: If you know – There is nothing to say. by Stan Bermann
If you know – there is nothing to say. Obviously – I don’t know. So I talk. Not to lecture anyone, or to say something so true and wise that the hearer cannot otherwise help but gain from it.
As I’ve said, there is nothing to say.
I’ve known this for a while. A long while, and yet I cannot stop wanting to say something. I want to say this to no one in particular. Just to the universe. I think I hope that someone, or something out there, will hear me and tell me I’m on the right path.
There is no path.
There is one breath at a time. One moment at a time as they say, but no path. One thought follows another, precedes another. Chinese food. Breakfast. Sleep. A movie. A sentence, two of them become a conversation. One thing follows another. There is one thing. Nothing before, nothing after. Just one thing.
We get confused and believe what is necessary for us to believe if we want to get through the day. Sleep would be impossible if we knew. Actually, we are sleeping all the time. Maybe if lucky, or if we meet ourselves someplace in the dark, we will see the moment. The momentousness of it. Otherwise, it is all a novel. A dream.
