Dr. Who’s ‘Polly’ tells her tales of an extraordinary life.
Anneke Wills, actress, who played the iconic role of the glamorous assistant Polly in the earlier episodes of this giant of a series has written two lively, witty, outrageous and true books about her life.
The first Self Portrait covers her earlier days from childhood, through the swinging sixties, career and marriage, to the early 70s. The second ‘Naked’ takes us from North Norfolk to India, Canada and back home to settle in Devon. These travels include loves, hates, gurus and tragic loss. As another reviewer writes: “You couldn’t make it up!”
Anneke is one of my closest friends so I admit to being biased. However, her books made me laugh, cry and remember with love a life – shared together at many moments – of someone I care about.
In the first book she writes with the voice of a young woman, in the second the voice becomes wiser and more mature. Both voices are accompanied by her own inimitable and talented drawings, photos and stories of the famous and not-so-famous people she meets on the way. Especially for those of us over 50 – at the age of 68, she is an inspiration.
